Birdwatching Walks
« on: May 10, 2013, 10:42:42 PM »
Hi everyone - this is my first post, although I am a regular reader. My cousin is coming to visit for a week on Monday, all the way from California. His passion is birdwatching and I would like to recommend some places and accompany him on some walks to make his visit memorable and show him the best of Corfu. I have just looked at Dennis's marvellous catalogue of the birds in the north-west and also seen the salt pans at Lefkimi mentioned. Are there any other suggestions or advice you can give me? Thanks...

I too would recommend the Lefkimmi salt pans for water fowl and the likes. Nearer Corfu Town he could try a short visit to the Lagoon at the end of the Airport's runway. There are often interesting birds to be seen there. That could be incorporated into a little site seeing around Pontokinisi (Mouse Island).

In truth, as a non ornithologist I would say just keep your eyes open. There are no end of wild birds. We have lost count of the varieties that were new to us when we relocated to Corfu.

Photographers are violent people. First they frame you, then they shoot you, then they hang you on the wall.
