New Acharavi Taverna
« on: February 28, 2017, 09:09:56 AM »
Morning :)
Been told that a new tavern has opened in Acharavi opposite Alegria.
Has anyone been, know it's name, know what kind of food it serves?
Any other developments in Acharavi at all?
Cheers
Gareth

The place that you are talking about is where Binelikia used to be. I think that it is now called 'Ιχνηλάτης' Diner and is a Mezedopoleio. We haven't visited yet. I believe that they sometimes have live music. They have an unofficial Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/pages/%CE%99%CF%87%CE%BD%CE%B7%CE%BB%CE%AC%CF%84%CE%B7%CF%82/924050854396618?pnref=story  HTH.

Photographers are violent people. First they frame you, then they shoot you, then they hang you on the wall.

I think that Grasshopper has. She spoke favourably of it.

Went to Ιχνηλατης a few weeks ago after one of Hilary's walks and found it very good.  It was a slightly chilly day and they had two log fires burning.  Good choice of tasty food.  Nice staff and good prices.

We have eaten there a couple of times.  Very clean, very pleasant staff who are trying hard.  In our view the food is not spectacular,  no real stand out dishes and nothing surprising or different, but then we don't eat fish or seafood.  For us, its big plus points are that it is open in the winter and its warm and welcoming.  They do actually light both fires which makes such a difference.  It seems to be run by a young couple and I wish them well. We have only visited at lunch times.

Grasshopper, do you rate/recommend any restaurants to try for a change?

I know this is a difficult question as it is a personal thing and places do have off days.

We like most kinds of food and any (must be clean) type of restaurant.

thanks

We live here and one of the biggest problems with food here is consistency. There have been times, when a second visit has proved to be so poor, that we have chosen not to visit the place again.  Recommending anywhere is a minefield as has been pointed out on here by Bob and others.  I will however, stick my head up and recommend:

Evdemon - in Affionas.  Not yet open, but consistently offers some of the best modern Greek food I have ever eaten and beautifully presented - not cheap though or huge portions.  Opening next weekend I believe. Probably my favourite if I could only pick one.

Beachcomber's Bistro in San Stefanos (north west) not Greek food, more Mediterranean food, I don't eat a lot of meat but this is the only place where I will eat steak.  Also does very, very nice meringues. Opening for the season soon.

Salto, Corfu Town.  A wine bar that does amazing food.  Modern Greek food and a wonderful wine list. Open all year.

Pomo D'Oro  - Corfu town. Modern Greek Food, very different, a place for special ocassions really - we tend to only visit in the winter.

A la Paleia - in Strinilas - traditional Greek taverna food of a consistent standard, generous portions, good chips and home made bread - although I have to say the place is looking a bit tatty these days.

Ginger - Acharavi. Some Greek, some italian food,  with some good cocktails on offer as well.

There are probably others, but these are the ones that immediately come to mind.  If you do visit any of them,  I hope you enjoy them.

Thank you for taking the time to pass on info, I will definitely try Ginger, we love Salto so know you must have similar taste.

We will try the ones on the west coast later as we have family who visit Arillas every year.

Don't mind tatty, can add character, so long as clean.

 :) :)

If you visit Arillas, then do visit Ammos. Not really a restaurant, but it does have a range of snack type food, the salads are wonderful, I like the sweet and savoury crepes, all their food is beautifully presented. They offer a very good wine list,  great cocktails and seriously good coffee. As it is right by the beach it's a lovely place to toast the setting sun. It's probably our favourite place, so we go there a lot!
