Football Season 2018/2019
« on: August 10, 2018, 10:32:31 AM »
Near the start of the new footie season with plenty of new signings but Manchester United fell short and Spurs did not even sign anyone. Who will make up the top four at the end. The usual suspects, Man C, Liverpool, Arsenal, Spurs? First manager to be sacked or leave?  The favourite must be Mourinho, surely?

A fine start for Chelsea with a 3 - 0 win away to Huddersfield. Top of the league! ... Well until today at least!  ;D

In Scotland, things aren't looking too good for Brendan Rogers following their defeat yesterday. How fickle are Scottish fans? Celtic went the whole of last season with just one loss. Yesterday's result was being heralded as two defeats in two matches. I think they may want to pause for breath.  ;)

Aceman,

I am pleased for Liverpool. I like Klopp as he is a gentleman.  Also I am sympathetic as Liverpool last won the FA Cup in 2006 and haven't won the league for 28 years ... or to be precise:

Remember that history is a mystery! ;)

I loved the quote:

"Since Liverpool last won the league, Peter Schmeichal signed for Manchester Utd, won it five times, retired, had a son and he just won it with Leicester City!"

That would have been funny were it true about any team!  ;D

It was a great match, made even better because Chelsea won but I think that Man City will finish top again this season. They are amazing!

Very entertaining match. I guess that it made a change from seeing Scottish clubs being removed from European competitions so early. At least when Chelsea play in Europe they tend to progress further!

As for Man City, I guess we will have to see how the team, their new players and new manager manage to gel together. So far, it is encouraging but early days!

I watched a football match today played on a plastic pitch. Imperfections include random unpredictable ball bounce, injuries to players , horrible "grass" colour etc. Should fake pitches be banned?

The season is well under way and already there are some interesting results. The Premier League is looking competitive. The EFL/Carabao Cup has already produced some surprising results. One can only imagine the delight of Frank Lampard when Derby County beat his old Mentor's Man. Utd.

Last night's match between Liverpool and Chelsea was a thriller. Sturridge will probably take some stick for missing an open goal even after he made up for it by scoring a stunning goal later with an overhead kick. It proved to be something of a consolation prize after Emerson scored a scrappy goal from a set piece and the goal of the match by substitute, Hazard. It was described in the Daily Telegraph as a 'wonder goal'. Having seen numerous replays of it, I think that is a fair description ... but then I am biased. ;D

Both teams arguably didn't put out their strongest teams but it was a testament to both managers that they were taking the match seriously when they made top flight substitutions. They both wanted to win! This weekend's rematch looks set to be a thriller.

I was out at a resturant last night on the island so didn't see the game just the highlights. Yes it makes for an interesting game on Saturday which I will be home to watch. Many selection changes for both sides I expect. And yes studges miss was awful and Hazards goal was superb although I think he should be dropped for Saturday's match 😆😆
