February, Progress so far

I am well on the way to achieving the sales needed to break even on the cost of the Corfu Villages eBook and as i write i am over 3/4 of the way there.

As soon as i reach the magic figure all sales after that will be available to give to the villages and charities of Corfu.

I have used every trick in the book when it comes to marketing. As well as this Blog i have several Facebook pages including, Steve Ford, Corfu Villages Greece Ebook, Corfu Charities, Hawaii Bar Pelekas Corfu and Pelekas Village Corfu.

I am a member of the Corfu Grapevine, Corfu-forum and Agni forum, and have a twitter account for Corfu VillagesÖ.Phew! Itís hard work but i know it will be worth it.

I must apologise to the people and friends who are being bombarded with my daily attack on their privacy but hey! no painÖ.no gain.

So, as always, a BIG thank you to everyone who has bought the pdf ebook or the Amazon Kindle Edition, your contributions to the less fortunate in my second home is invaluable and will greatly appreciated.

Kind regards, Steve,  ;)

PS. Donít forget to tell your friends !!

March, making plans for next visit

Hi All,

I am happy with the villages i have chosen for my next visit in April. Although, they are subject to change as i found when i wrote the book about the central villages.

When i visit a village it has to have several qualities to be included in the finished book. A church, a kafenion, a shop, a history, a landmark or a panoramic view.

If i want tourists to visit a village, then, the village has to be worth visiting. I want them to say that it was well worth making the effort to leave the resort and explore the hidden treasures of Corfu.

Last year i visited some thirty villages with only eighteen making the final edition. Some of the villages i visited were not quite what i expected only to find a treasure a few kilometers further on that i hadnít included originally.

Thatís what makes travelling around unexplored parts of Corfu so exciting, you never know what you are going to find.

Some of the villages I know from passing through over the last 25 years of holidaying in Corfu, but when it comes to writing and taking photographs about them, i am having to look at them in a totally different way.

If you think your village should be included in the next edition then please contact me.

Steve,  ;)

April, Final preparations

Hi All,

Well the past month has gone by quite quickly and as you probably know by now I have reached my target of £300 raised for the Corfu charities to be donated at Easter.

Once again I would like to thank you all for buying the ebook and the Kindle edition,  your support will be greatly appreciated by the less fortunate people in Corfu at the most important celebration of the year.

I know I have probably driven you all mad at times with my regular marketing ploys but, you have to admit I have been inventive as I have used every trick in the book! So, thank you for your patience and keep spreading the word as we need to raise money all year round.

I will be flying out on 26th April and arrive in Pelekas late in the evening so, a few beers and a good nights rest. Saturday I will be cleaning the apartment, getting the scooter ready and meeting up with village friends.

Sunday I will start out on my new journey to the villages of the North. I will travel up the west coast past Paleokastritsa where my expedition will begin. I will be writing a short daily blog on the corfu-forum.com and the Corfu Grapevine on Facebook if you want to follow my progress.

I am happy to meet anyone with local knowledge of their village for a frappe as I travel round, and I will be staying overnight in different places for several days as I make my way from west to east. So if you know where there is a cheap room for the night with a taverna nearby then get in touch.

I wonít be able to cover the whole of the north on my first trip but, I will be back in June and August to complete part 2 of the book then.

So, watch out for me, I will be on a Black Piaggio scooter with a Mod target and a Northern Soul sticker on the front and I will be wearing a Mod target helmet.

Steve FordÖÖ.Coming to a village near you !!

May, Northwest villages, Church and Greek Easter

Hi All,

I am now back from my first trip of the year to Corfu where I have had a very busy 10 days.

Day 1 was spent cleaning the apartment and wiping down some damp that had appeared from the very wet winter months Corfu had endured. Seventy days rain I was told.

Day 2 and out came the scooter which started ok after being left for the last six months so a good start. I headed up towards Paleokastritsa  and took the winding road up through Lakones and on to my first destination, the village of Makrades. From there some lunch in Krini and on to view the Angelokastro. Wow, what a sight that is. Next stop were the villages of Prinilas, with itís fabulous viewpoint and Pagi with itís history. Up to the beautiful village of Afionas and on to Arillas for an overnight stay.

I stopped the night at Alex Christouís house and they generously invited me to eat with the family. Alex is working very hard to develop Alternative Tourism for Corfu and is involved with the www.greencorfu.com  website. Of course we talked all night about tourism and the book I am writing and had many glasses of home made wine.

Day 3 and after breakfast I headed further north to the village of Avliotes. Walked around the village and talked some Gringlish in the kafenion to see if I could add to my information on the area. I moved on feeling very positive as I headed to Peroulades and was not disappointed when I arrived. This part of Corfu has so many great views and looking out to the Diapontian Islands was no exception.

I popped in to Sidari to pick up the main road south was on the right track until I took the wrong turning and ended up going back through all the villages in the area. Still at least I had been to villages I hadnít planned to and so made sure I was not missing out on one.

It took me 2 hours to reach Pelekas and I was exhausted. If this was to tough, what was the middle north and the mountainous northwest going to be like. I think I need a car !!

Day 4 and a presentation of part 1 of the book at the Holy Trinity church in Corfu town. I took some CDís with the pdf book on them and raised another 50 euros for the cause. I met some nice people and went out for lunch with Bob and Tricia, the owners of the www.corfu-forum.com

Day 5 and 6 were spent surveying the damage caused by damp coming through one of the walls at the apartment and preparing it for painting. Too wet, will have to wait.

Day 7,8,9 and 10ÖÖwellÖÖitís Easter isnít it !!
