St. Spiro celebrations
« on: August 09, 2016, 12:39:04 AM »
This year there are more events than usual leading up to the litany on August 11, notably many concerts, because it's 300 years since St. Spiro miraculously repelled the Turkish invasion. Some years they have a varkarola (boat parade) in town, sometimes not; this year it's set for 10 pm Thursday Aug. 10.  Usually it's held in the bay of Garitsa, but this year apparently it's going to be off Faliraki. No doubt the town will be very crowded and parking difficult, but I thought I'd post just in case anyone is coming in that day.

Here's an announcement (in Greek):

Thanks for the info Dasia, usually I'd go but 'himself' is in the UK for some medical treatment and I can't cope with all the traffic.....particularly as my night vision is rubbish!!
