Here goes!!!
« on: January 17, 2016, 03:04:35 PM »
This is such a long tale ,,I'll tell you about it in parts,,this is part one!

I have to tell you that for some reason I  have a mental block when using the controls of my mobility scooter,if I turn the wheels full on to turn left or right,,,I forget to gently press the go leaver,,,I'm concentrating so much not to hit anyone or anything,,the opposite happens!
My hand presses the throttle lever too hard and off I go like a witch on a broom stick!
Driving my car is much easier!

Mobility scooter assembled in the car park,,good to go!
Can you manage on your own,,,,the entrance to the hospital has revolving doors!
Yes I'll be fine!

Off I go while Mr M goes off to find a free parking space for three hours,,he'll catch me up !

There's enough space in each section of the revolving doors for at least ten people!
It took me two attempts until I was confident  enough to get in and find a place,,,my section was empty !!

Phew managed ok to exit the doors ,,looked at the information boards ,thought I knew were I was going, knew there was a lift!
Couldn't remember if the lift was one that two doors opened,,one for going in and one for coming out!

No suck luck,,I'de have to reverse out of the lift!
Luck was on my side or on the side of passengers as the lift was empty,,I had time to position my scooter in order to make a no fuss exit backward!

Corridors now a lot wider!
I found reception,,,had to do a right turn into the room !
Wheels on full lock!
Hand on full throttle!
A young man sitting in the room waiting,,,just managed to get his feet out of the way!
My scooter stopped with a thud as I hit the reception desk!

Instructed to wait in the T V room,,can't miss it as it has tea and coffee machines outside of it!
It was for patients waiting to be seen,,could not help ourselves but a volunteer would bring the hot drinks to us!
Reached the machine!
A young man with a beard was making two drinks,,,I assumed he was the volunteer !
I went onto say that I was waiting for my husband to catch me up and would then require his services!
He gave me a strange look then a smile!

I drove to the far end of the room ,it was full of people waiting to be seen,,,,I remembered the room and knew a nurse would call my name from a door on the left!
I'de positioned me and the scooter close to the door for ease!

Mr M had joined me by this time!
Had I managed ok on my own,,,told him the story so far!
What on earth don't you understand about turning the scooter in the right direction?
Why don't you remember to gently kiss the throttle lever?
I just don't understand why you have so much trouble driving the mobilty scooter!
A five year old can do it !
I was then given a driving lesson at the front of the room in full view of the people waiting to be seen!!

I was aware of workmen carrying ladders into the TV room!
Thought to myself as one workman set up a set of ladders ,moved a ceiling tile and his head disappeared into the ceiling,,it's just as well I won't have to drive past him ,as I'll be called into the room I'm parked next to!!

A voice from the back of the room called my name,,,I'de forgotten the first part of the pre op,,,I had my blood taken ,BP,etc etc!!
I turned the key!
Positioned the wheels for a right turn!
But forgot to ease off the throttle!
I zoomed off like s--t off a shovel!
Made the right turn,,but nearly took a mans feet of while he was sitting reading his news paper!
I saw the first young man whose feet were still intact from when I checked in at reception ,he saw me coming and moved out of my way quick sharp!
I dragged empty chairs out of line!
Nearly took one woman's little finger off as it got jammed between the moving chairs!!
The workman on the ladder,,well all I can say is,he was very lucky not to end up in A&he as seconds before my approach he'd done his job in the ceiling and moved his ladders!

The nurse called my name three times in total,,,,all I could say is I'm here and I'm coming!

Another lecture from Mr M on the way to the nurses room!
He gave me my crutches ,,,,that told me I was not to go into the room on the scooter!

I like to chat to people!
I had a chat with the nurse,,,found out that she'd had both of her hips replaced!
But your so young I said!
Yes,,but the cause of one hip was an oversight when she was born,,,it became more apparent as she got older and started doing sport in senior school!

Both hips replaced before she had her first baby,,but she now wanted another baby  and was concerned about her weight bearing hips ,,,she was to see her surgeon the following week for his advice and opinion!

It's amazing the things people talk about if you start a conversation with them!

Back to the TV room, past the tea making machine!
Explained to Mr M that a volunteer had to bring hot drinks to us,,so just hang on till we're settled!
Positioned once again outside of the correct door,I noticed the volunteer walking towards the tea machine!
Ermmm excuse me!
Could we have one hot chocolate, one tea with milk and sugar and two packets of biscuits please!
He looked at me as if I had two heads!
I'm not the volunteer.!
I'm a physio therapist!!!'

Oh gawd !
Did I get that wrong!
He did go onto say that we could help ourselves,,,so drinks courtesy of Mr M !!

You should sell tickets! I'm over in April. If you are allowed out of the house on your mobility scooter, it'll be worth the fare to come and watch! ;D ;D ;D
Photographers are violent people. First they frame you, then they shoot you, then they hang you on the wall.
