Here's something different for Kindle owners - The Kindle Cloud reader. Don't switch off yet because this is mildly interesting!
Kindle owners can go to
https://read.amazon.com/about and register. You will then be able to download books that you have purchased and read them in your web browser (Firefox or Chrome for PC/Mac/Linux, Safari 5+ on the Mac/PC, or Safari on the iPad). This will allow you to read your books on the computer via the browser.
Now I know some will say, "Why would I want to do that when I have the books on my Kindle"? You could also read them with software such as Calibre. Dealing with the last point first, most people will have one of the required browsers and so no additional software is required.
You can read your books offline. The real advantage comes when you have technical books with small diagrams or coloured images. I have been very disappointed how the kindle handles technical publications, especially books that I just want to dip into. This is perfect.
This is how Amazon describe it:
Buy Once, Read EverywhereKindle Cloud Reader runs in your web browser but looks and acts just like an app—and you can continue reading even if you lose your internet connection.
Shop over a million ebooks in the Kindle Store.
Already have Kindle ebooks? Read them in any supported web browser with Kindle Cloud Reader.
At the end of the day, it's free. Why not take it for a spin!
