Foreword

The idea for the eBook about Corfu Villages came about when I was asked to be a moderator for the travel and tourism section for the new corfu-forum.com which was launched in January 2012.

Having written the sections for Corfu resorts, out and about and holiday reports I proceeded to write a section for Corfu villages.
It was then that I realised how little information and how few photographs there were on the internet. I searched a minimum of ten pages on search engines for each village with mixed results. I searched through travel sites, guides and blogs. I then looked for books about the villages and there were none.

So, there was the challenge, I would have to use what little information I had gained from the internet, visit the villages myself and take my own photographs to compile enough information to write a book.

Luckily I have been going to Corfu for over 25 years and had already visited many of the villages to be featured, but, I decided to visit them all with a fresh outlook.
I had four holidays booked for the season, cheap flights were bought and as we own a small apartment in the village of Pelekas, it wouldn’t be too costly.

I set myself a target for the year and once in Corfu set out each day on my scooter to each village. It was then I realised just how big Corfu is. It is for this reason that I have decided to write the book in three stages.
The first book will be about the central Corfu villages. The second and third will be about the villages of the north and the villages of the south.

When you drive 20 km to a village in the mountains it’s not as simple as you think. Climbing several hundred meters high up narrow zig zag roads to reach your destination is very tiring. But, when you reach the village it is all worth while as the views of the island are simply spectacular and everyone different.

All the villages in the book have their own story to tell. They are all unique for some reason or another whether it be for their history, landmarks, local traditions or views. Each one has been visited and photographed by me and each one that was chosen had to meet certain criteria so that the visitor would enjoy their trip to the hidden wonders of the real Corfu as it has remained for centuries.

If your favourite village is not included then don’t worry, the beauty of an ebook is that it can be updated at anytime and I have many more visits to Corfu in the future. She is in my blood now, Κέρκυρα μου αγάπη (Corfu my love).

As I have spent so many happy and memorable times in Corfu I thought it was time to give something back to the island. Writing the book has given me that opportunity and I intend to give all of the profits to the charities and villages of Corfu.

Lastly, I would like to thank you for buying the book and all of the people who have helped and supported me throughout, you know who you are.  Enjoy…Steve.

And don't forget that when the three books are complete, there must be the omnibus edition! ;)

I hope that it's doing well.

Photographers are violent people. First they frame you, then they shoot you, then they hang you on the wall.
