Eating out during Winter 2012/2013
« on: September 20, 2012, 10:06:40 AM »
Hi all,

As we are approaching the end of the 2012 season, it occurred to me that we can all do a little bit for us residents, those that brave a visit to Corfu during the winter months and especially those enterprising tavernas, restaurants and bars that are prepared to open their doors during the Winter months.

So, when you visit any taverna, etc just enquire as to whether they are going to open during the winter and if the answer is 'Yes' find out the days of the week and hours. Then all you have to do is post your discoveries to this thread.

I am going to start the ball rolling.

Τα Κοκόρια, Οδος Πάργας, (Just behind the Liston), Corfu Town. They will be opening Fridays, Saturdays (with a short break in the afternoon), and Sunday lunchtimes.

Η Ρούγα, Acharavi Old Town, will be opening Thursday, Friday, Saturday evenings and Sunday lunchtimes.

Mon Amour (Kokkinos) in Kavadades. Open evenings all year. Telephone number: 26630 51106. Basically a grill room so meat, chips or Greek roast potatoes if they have them, salad (occasional specials) and often complementary fruit dessert.

Good Bob if you and Trisa decided on a Winter's Day out maybe (if it is open through Winter) all the locals seem to meet here as you will see by the photo's - and they certainly met here for their morning Coffee and chat when we called in here a few times.

The Amourada in Arillas (NW) is open everyday from lunch time for food & drinks but it is usually whatever they have in food wise. Very friendly family run business.

Just today picked up the menu from The Old School House in Aspiotades.  Grill room open 7 days a week all through the winter - family run and very friendly.  Located on the main road to Aghios Georgios (N.W.) from Agros.

Will have to double-check but Stamatis in Viros is usually open for Sunday lunch all through the winter.   Delicious food and big log fire.

The Village Taverna in Liapades is open during the winter, so I will ask the days and times when we go again in the next week or two. They have a big open fire in the center of the taverna and all the food is freshly prepared and cooked by the family. Grandama's Aubergine Pie is delicious! They do a range of traditional dishes, plus various Mediterranean dishes and they offer freshly baked homemade bread. The family lived in New York for a decade, so their homemade pizzas are gorgeous too. Pedros and family will give everyone a warm welcome I'm sure.
Shakes Bar-Restaurant, Dassia, Corfu.

Last Monday, Thomas at Foros in Old Perithia assured us that he would be open at weekends during the winter and at Christmas too.

Yes, Thomas is always open at weekends during the winter. One winter, on Boxing Day I think, he even cooked a beautiful roast turkey stuffed with fruit and nuts. It was delicious.

There is one that just opened last week on the 9th/10th July 2013 on the main road of Benitses just pass the Co-Op Supermarket going away from Corfu Town.

I will call it The Steak House as that was the name on the Sign in English  ::) and hopefully Jan will help me out with the Greek Name and the opening hours for the Winter Months for those of you who are that way and want to try it (think of me in UK  :'( ) as we were told that they will be opening through Winter months for the locals.

It was opening to late for us to try but Mr Viv was taken through and shown everything by the Owners Father   ::) ;D.

Please let me know if it is good and you enjoyed it as we will have to sample it next year as we promised we would.

Thank you for that Viv!

It is always worth knowing what is open during the winter.
