I don't know if Shakespeare counts, but if he does The Merchant of Venice.   The Water Babies by Charles Kingsley (I am lucky enough to own a 1930s edition with beautiful illustrations by Harry G.Theaker) and Jude the Obscure by Thomas Hardy; anything by John Steinbeck and Somerset Maughan.    Modern writers such as Sebastian Faulks and Sarah Waters.   But the Merchant of Venice is my favourite.   It displays all the best and worst of human nature.

Has to be Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen.  Read all types of books but that has to be my All Time Favourite, own several copies printed through the years and with special bindings  ::)
Keep life simple, love what you have :)

lias, you have just brought back a wonderful memory for me!  I have never actually read "The Water Babies", but my dad used to tell me his own very short version of it at bedtime, so many years ago!  I have made a mental note now to read the book.  Can't believe this, but the tears are rolling down my cheeks at the moment ( nice ones ) :) :'(!

Thank you

It's almost become a classic Rogernrose. I bought a 2nd hand box set of the 'trilogy' (5 books in all!!!) for my 16 year vampire novel obsessed daughter - I don't think she has quite got the black humour yet!

Ah yes! 'The Hitch Hiker's Guide To The Galaxy'. A Trilogy in four parts! Great fun!
