The Taste of a Place Corfu....
« on: February 09, 2012, 09:45:37 AM »
by Vicky Bennison
This is described as a culinary guide to Greece's most beautiful island. Rich in history and in culinary traditions. From fish stews to scented yoghurt cake, baklava to octopus salad there is far more to eating than just taramosalata and stuffed vine leaves. The book shows you where to find the best tavernas (in their opinion), where to shop, staples of the storecupboard/fridge, talks meat, fish, vegetables, fruit, herbs, nature's bounty, drink and of course a good section of recipes. ISBN 0-9542692-0-9

This book has some nice photos of Corfu as well as good recipes.

I have a signed yellowing copy as it's about 10 years old now and just thumbed through it again after seeing this recommendation. The recipes still make my mouth water!

Obviously some of the taverna recommendations in the book are out of date now.

Think before you speak! If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all.

In addition to Trisa's comments I would like to add that this is indeed a charming book written by a charming author! I don't know what it is about Loutses but it does seem to attract its fair share of authors and artistes! (Vicky's family have a house there.)

I think that I am correct in saying that this book was the first in a whole series of books highlighting foods from around the world.

The original publication did include a few irritating typos but they didn't detract from the recipes,, which of course was the reason the book was purchased.

A good addition to the library!

Had taken this book down from my bookcase this morning as it is a very wet and wild morning here in the Malverns! and needed a pick-me-up book! and just thought "must add this to the Corfu Forum List of books"  To find it is already here!  ;D  I bought this book a few years ago and can only echo what has already been said, the pictures and format of the book make it worth having just for that alone. Still available by Amazon and see Vicky Bennison has done books on other popular holiday destinations also.
Keep life simple, love what you have :)
